Uganda Martyrs Day, celebrated on June 3rd, honors the 22 Catholic and 23 Anglican martyrs who were killed between 1885 and 1887 by the orders of Kabaka Mwanga II, the king of Buganda. The main celebration takes place at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine in Namugongo, which is one of the largest Christian pilgrimage sites in Africa. Pilgrims from all over the world gather to commemorate the martyrs’ faith and sacrifice through prayers, Mass, and various religious activities. The event is a significant occasion for both the Catholic and Anglican communities in Uganda and serves as a powerful reminder of the martyrs’ enduring legacy
